I Am the World Trade Center is an American synthpop duo consisting of musician Daniel Geller (co-founder of Kindercore Records) and vocalist Amy Dykes. Geller creates almost all of the music using his laptop, occasionally using drum machines, keyboards, or other instruments. Geller co-founded Kindercore Records with Ryan Lewis in 1996 in Athens, Georgia. Lewis, Geller, and Dykes soon moved to New York City, and Geller and Dykes began dating in 1997
Out of the Loop is the debut album by American synthpop duo I Am the World Trade Center, released on July 17, 2001. Less than two months later, it gained some controversy after the September 11 attacks, due to both the band's name and the coincidental title of their 11th track, "September. The band was seen as gathering shameless attention out of the attacks when in actuality Out of the Loop was released prior to them. Sounds So Crazy" – 2:58.

I Am the World Trade Center's debut album, Out of the Loop, is a case in point: Dan Geller (co-boss of the Kindercore label) and Amy Dykes - who are the World Trade Center - recorded, mixed, and produced the whole project on a laptop. The Brooklyn-based couple has fashioned a surprisingly refreshing and playful album's worth of electronic dance-pop. More pervasive on Out of the Loop, however, is an '80s feel, as much of the album is imbued with the kind of synth sounds that abounded when the instrument was first being integrated into chart-friendly electro-pop. Thankfully, Geller uses that component in such a way that it never sinks the tracks into complete kitsch, but simply keeps them fun.
Whether the members of I Am the World Trade Center really want you to dance to their music is debatable. Perhaps the most telling word in the last sentence of the previous paragraph was "charming"; it really speaks volumes about this band's stock in trade, which is to take a spice rack full of elements and qualities inherent to t-to-move-you dance music and twee 'em up a bunch. Which is not as bad as it sounds. It can be quite, well, charming. But it can also suck fat squirrel balls.
