Only Lynyrd Skynyrd could equal the energy of their rocking mix of Southern boogie, honky-tonk, and electric blues. At 10 tracks, this set may seem a bit skimpy, and while there's no dross, some listeners will find the nascent jingoism of "In America" and "The South's Gonna Do It Again" hard to swallow. I'm definitely not a big country music fan but this greatest hits album is so good that I had to download it. "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" alone is worth the price. It's one of the all-time great crossover-into-pop hits of all time. Then there's the hilarious "Uneasy Rider," another great crossover hit as is "Still In Saigon. A very pleasant surprise for me was "The South's Gonna Do It Again" (I said I wasn't a big country fan).

More than half of the songs from the Charlie Daniels Band's compilation A Decade of Hits were chart successes, especially the fiery "Devil Went Down to Georgia," a boot-kickin' mix of rock and country fiddle that proved to be this group's biggest hit. Played on both country and rock radio, it hit number three on Billboard's Top 40 in 1979 thanks to its hard-based rhythm and entertaining narrative. A Decade of Hits puts together ten of the band's most solid songs that integrate both a country and rock feel.
