NDR Jazz Workshop Hamburg, Germany. Ratledge, Jenkins, Babbington, Marshall. Voiceprint Records released four CDs, containing several tracks by various musicians from the Canterbury scene (mainly from the Soft Machine and the Caravan bands), compiled and with notes by Brian Hopper. The four single CDs are re-released in 2013 in a boxed set. 1998.
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection(18%). Good, but non-essential (25%). Collectors/fans only (4%). Only for completionists (4%). This actually comes from a German television program called "NDR Workshop" and it was recorded in May of 1973. This is one of the first live shows performed by the "Seven" lineup even though this event happened before "Seven" was recorded. So just about all of the tracks are from "Six" but this is so much better than both the live or studio portion of "Six" in my opinion.
NDR Jazz Workshop is a fusion music live album recording by SOFT MACHINE released in 2010 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. CD10 Chloe And The Pirates 8:34 CD11 Gesolreut 11:48 CD12 .
The Coltrane connection can also be heard on "Mayflower," the burning modal opener to Flashpoint: NDR Jazz Workshop-April '69, a golden find of a German television performance, rescued from obscurity by Cuneiform Records and released as a double-disc set with both an audio CD and DVD of the same five-track set. Surman's soprano solo is an incendiary combination of visceral trills and screams, but even its greatest extremes reflect the underlying pastoral melodism that distinguished Surman, even at this relatively early stage in his career.
