This is a great album and pretty interesting. It takes a lot of traditional African music and compiles it on three disc set. Each disc is from a different area so it's a great variety. Tracking an album collection that keeps growing with a pinch of local music and life. Anthology Of Music Of Black Africa. This is a great album and pretty interesting. Each disc is from a different area so it’s a great variety. If you happen upon this set, pick it up! Anthology of Music of Black Africa. Disc One: Sonar Senghor and His Troupe.
The best disco songs imply infinity in both their length and groove, and always feel as if they’re attached to a black hole. Haven’t You Heard enhances time until it feels like the glitter of a cityscape unfurling through a cab window. Ben’s original version of the song, recorded for his 1972 album Ben, is a subdued gem. But the version recorded for his massive 1976 crossover album Africa Brasil exudes joy, sparks flying from every exuberant note. The record would end up getting Rod Stewart-whose Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? bore a strong resemblance-sued. It’s not difficult, though, to see what Stewart saw in its jubilant DNA (unconsciously, according to his autobiography).
