Plastics, or The Plastics, were a short-lived Japanese new wave music group prominent in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their music was a major influence on Japanese pop music and their songs have been covered by many bands, most notably Polysics, Pizzicato Five, and Stereo Total. Perhaps their greatest exposure came from their appearance on the late night comedy show SCTV on NBC performing "Top Secret Man"  . All Across the USA 80 Live (1997) Recorded at Irving Plaza, New York, Aug 30th 1980 and Whisky A Go Go, Los Angeles, April 23, 1980. Origato25 (2005) 2-disc greatest hits with 4 rare/new tracks. The ’80s saw heavy metal engaged in a sort of arms race, as groups across the world set out to one-up each other in a quest to be the heaviest, the most technical, or the most extreme. Mercyful Fate were adept at all three. And none of their albums captured that live insanity better than Locust Abortion Technician. If anyone still gets sentimental about the Lower East Side of the ’80s, a fantasy land where Madonna and Fab Five Freddy partied with the graffiti artists Futura and Keith Haring, we probably have perfect records like Tom Tom Club to blame. As the bassist and drummer of the Talking Heads, respectively, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz were in love with rubbery grooves and polyrthythms.

Then as the 80s drew to a close and grunge's chart-toppling power loomed on the horizon, rock with a twist took hold: Nirvana arrived and The Pixies tightened their grip. From balls to the wall metal to dark, sexy alt-rock; from Aerosmith to the Replacements, the 80s was the decade when there really was an alternative to whatever was going on in the mainstream. Springsteen’s seventh studio album generated as many singles, Dancing In The Dark, Cover Me and I’m On Fire among them. But for all the album’s overall quality, the deceptively uplifting title track’s tale of a shafted Vietnam veteran is the one that most people recognise. Born In The USA had come along right on the heels of a dark period in both Springsteen’s own life and for Americans in general.

South Australia leading the way on banning single-use plastics!' she wrote on Twitter. This is great news and now needs to backed up by action in Canberra.
