Eduard Melkus (born 1 September 1928 in Baden bei Wien) is an Austrian violinist and violist. Following the Second World War, Melkus dedicated himself to the exploration of historically informed performance. He was a member of the 1949 Vienna viola da gamba quartet, the select group of musicians that included Alice and Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the harpsichordist Gustav Leonhardt who started the Early Music movement.

Bach: Violin Concertos, BWV 1041-1043. CD - Berlin Classics. In the wonderful opening movement of the Violin Concerto in E major, BWV 1042, where Bach tightly knits soloist and orchestra together in his opening material and unravels them over the course of the movement, you can hardly hear soloist Karl Suske at the beginning. Suske and second soloist Giorgio Kröhner in the Concerto for two violins and orchestra, BWV 1043 (perhaps the most effective of the three performances on the disc) deliver fine, taut readings, but they seem to remain in the background.

By Johann Sebastian Bach. For Solo Instrument, Strings, Basso Continuo.
