The Music from Peter Gunn is a 1959 album by Henry Mancini, RCA Victor LPM/LSP-1956, the soundtrack of the TV series Peter Gunn. It was the first album ever to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1959. It was followed by More Music from Peter Gunn, RCA Victor LPM/LSP-2040. The opening theme music is notable for its combination of jazz orchestration with a straightforward rock 'n roll beat.

Henry Mancini was so successful with his Music from Peter Gunn album that RCA-Victor brought him back into the studio for a second LP's worth of music from the Blake Edwards-produced program. The second Peter Gunn album didn't do as well as the first, but it is almost as strong musically. Notables on the sessions included drummer Shelly Manne, trumpet virtuoso Pete Candoli, and pianist (and future film music giant) John Williams

Peter Gunn is the second most jazz album/CD sold after Miles Davis's Kind of Blue; you can understand why; it's 50's/60's jazz at it's best. 5 people found this helpful.
